The directory grows daily as new businesses join and as our growth team discovers and adds unclaimed businesses across the county.

Is Discover Essex free to use for residents?

Yes — creating a business listing is free and has no time limit. Free listings include your business name, description, category, town, contact details and one photo. There is no credit card required and no trial period that converts to a charge.

What do paid listings include?

Two paid tiers are available:

• Enhanced (£12/month): Priority placement above free listings in search results, extended description, multiple photos, opening hours display, and inclusion in category spotlight promotions.
• Premium (£29/month): Everything in Enhanced plus a full-width cover image, social media links, embedded video, FAQ section, certifications and awards display, and a private analytics dashboard showing your listing's views and enquiry performance.

How does billing work?

Paid listings are billed monthly or annually (annual billing saves approximately two months' cost). Billing is processed via Stripe — the same payment infrastructure used by thousands of UK businesses. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard with no cancellation fees.

How long does it take for my listing to go live?

New listings are reviewed by our moderation team and typically approved within a few hours of submission. During high-volume periods (Monday mornings) approval may take up to 12 hours.

Can I list multiple business types?

Yes. You can list businesses, events, jobs and marketplace classifieds from the same account. Each type of listing is managed separately from your dashboard.

Can I update my listing after it's published?

Yes. Log in to your dashboard at any time to edit your listing details, update photos, change contact information or modify your description. Changes to free listings go through a brief re-review. Enhanced and Premium listing edits are applied promptly.
