Maldon27 Sept

If you’re in Maldon this week, make time for a slow wander along the Hythe and a proper pit-stop for coffee and something sweet from one of the independents by the waterfront. We’re also on the lookout for the best spot for a classic pub lunch after a riverside walk, especially anywhere doing standout local seafood. Where do you send friends when they visit Maldon, and what’s the one dish or drink they shouldn’t miss?

Hythe’s lovely on a calm day, but if you’ve got time I’d send mates up to the Blackwater Rail Trail first then back in for lunch at the Jolly Sailor at Heybridge Basin – grab a pint and the Maldon oysters if they’ve got them on.

If you’re down the Hythe, pop into Northey Island Bakehouse for coffee and something sweet, then head up to The Queens Head for a proper pub lunch after your riverside walk. Are you after classic fish and chips or more of a seafood platter vibe?

After a wander along the Hythe I usually take visitors over to the Moot Hall and Promenade Park, then finish at The Ship on the High Street for lunch – their whitebait with a pint is hard to beat if you’re after seafood.
