Job Summary

The Shepherd & Dog, a family-run gastro pub in Crays Hill, is looking for experienced Ad Hoc Bartenders (18+) and Ad Hoc Waiters (16+) to join our events team.

We host a wide variety of events throughout the year including weddings, live music nights, corporate functions, birthday parties, marquee celebrations and external catering events. No two weeks are the same.

This is a zero-hours, self-employed position, with hours varying depending on bookings. In busy periods, this could be up to 20 hours per week. Flexibility is essential as shifts will include evenings and weekends.

We are looking for reliable, enthusiastic individuals who take pride in delivering excellent customer service and thrive in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver warm, friendly and professional customer service
• Maintain a positive and welcoming atmosphere for guests
• Support the smooth running of weddings, private events and busy service periods
• Set up and clear down event spaces, including our marquee
• Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure high standards are maintained
• Handle customer queries confidently and professionally

Bartenders (18+)

• Confidently serve draught beers, wines, spirits and cocktails
• Demonstrate basic cocktail knowledge
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation behind the bar
• Work efficiently during high-volume service

Waiters (16+)

• Provide attentive table service
• Confidently carry trays and serve food and drinks
• Support restaurant service and private events
• Ensure tables and service areas are kept clean and presentable

Requirements

• Previous experience is essential (bar experience for bartenders, restaurant experience for waiters)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
• Strong work ethic and reliable timekeeping
• Smart appearance and professional demeanour
• Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
