Can anyone recommend a good spot in Brentwood for a proper Sunday roast that isn’t too fussy? We’re near Warley Hill and don’t mind a short walk towards the High Street or around King George’s Playing Fields, but I’d love somewhere with decent veg and gravy (and ideally a kid-friendly vibe). Where do you usually go, and is it worth booking ahead?

We usually head to The Bull on the High Street for a no-nonsense roast and decent gravy, and it’s an easy walk from Warley Hill past King George’s fields. Worth booking if you want a table at peak time, especially with kids.

The Golden Fleece off the High Street does a solid Sunday roast without any of the fuss, and they’ve always been decent about kids in my experience. If you’re coming over from Warley Hill I’d still book ahead for Sunday lunch, it fills up quick.

The Black Horse near the station does a cracking roast with proper veg and gravy and it’s an easy wander down from Warley Hill towards the High Street. Definitely book if you’re going midday-ish, it’s always rammed on Sundays.

Try The Spread Eagle by the Warley Hill side of town – proper roast, good gravy and they’re usually fine with kids, and it’s an easy walk towards the High Street. I’d book if you’re going on a Sunday after about 1pm as it gets busy.
