Anyone else noticed the river’s been looking gorgeous along the Quay this week? I’m thinking of a quick walk from the station down Station Road, past the Anchor, then along to Riverside Park for a sit — any recommendations for a decent coffee or a good bacon roll on the way (the little cafés on the High Street seem to vary)? Also, is there a quieter spot to watch the boats without getting in everyone’s way near the yacht clubs?
Quay’s looking spot on at the moment — if you’ve got time, nip into the Anchor itself as they’ll do you a decent bacon roll and a proper coffee. For boat-watching without being under anyone’s feet, wander round the back of Riverside Park by the wall away from the yacht club pontoons.
It really has looked cracking lately — if you cut through to the High Street, the bakery near the top usually does a proper bacon bap and a decent brew. For a quieter sit, carry on past the yacht clubs towards the far end of Riverside Park by the reeds; it’s much calmer there.
Yeah it’s been lovely down by the Quay this week — if you’re coming down Station Road past the Anchor, the little café by the station does a solid bacon roll and coffee, and for a quieter boat-watching spot try the bench by the slipway just before the yacht clubs where it’s a bit less busy.
Same route I do from the station — there’s a little coffee van that parks up by the Quay some mornings that’s decent, and if you keep going a bit further along the path past Riverside Park you can usually watch the boats in peace away from the yacht club frontage.
