Can anyone recommend a decent Sunday roast in Brentwood that isn’t rammed by 1pm? We’ve tried the Queens Arms up near Warley and it was lovely but hard to get a table last minute, and I’m wondering if The Black Horse by Brentwood High Street is any good for food. Also open to anywhere near King George’s Playing Fields for a walk afterwards — where do you all go?

We’ve had a good roast at The Sugar Hut’s restaurant bit (sounds daft, I know) and it’s been quieter around noon than the pubs on the High Street. If you’re walking after, you can park up by King George’s and it’s only a couple of minutes in the car back into town.

We usually head to The Spread Eagle in Hutton for Sunday lunch as it doesn’t feel as manic as the High Street spots, then drive five mins over and do a loop round King George’s after. If you’re looking to just rock up, what time are you normally getting out the door?
