If you’re in Loughton and fancy a proper local wander, we’d recommend starting with a stroll through Epping Forest from one of the town entrances, then rewarding yourself with a coffee or lunch along the High Road — there are some genuinely brilliant independents tucked in among the familiar names. We’re also hearing great things about the smaller fitness classes and evening workshops popping up locally, perfect if you want to meet people without trekking into London. What are your go-to Loughton spots right now, and which independent businesses deserve a bit more love?

I usually pop into the Forest from the Debden side then head up the High Road for lunch, but I’ve not tried any of the new smaller fitness classes yet — which ones are people rating locally?

I tend to start from the Forest entrance by the Tube station and do a loop round before heading up the High Road – Mongers is a cracking spot for lunch if you can get in. Where are people finding out about those evening workshops, is it mostly Facebook or local noticeboards?

Love a wander in Epping Forest then a coffee on the High Road — Betty’s is usually my go-to if I can grab a seat. Any recommendations for those evening workshops you mentioned?

We normally head into Epping Forest from Goldings Hill then swing back for a bite on the High Road, but I’m curious which independents you reckon are the hidden gems among the chains?
