Has anyone else noticed a few cars with their doors tried around Newland Street and the car park by Witham Leisure Centre this week? I’m usually fine walking back from the Red Lion past the River Walk, but it’s felt a bit dodgier after dark lately, especially near the benches. If you’ve seen anything or heard if there’s been extra patrols, can you share, and any tips for safe routes home would be appreciated.
Not seen anyone trying car doors myself, but there were a couple of PCSOs around Newland Street on Tuesday evening, so they might be doing extra patrols. If you’re walking back from the Red Lion I’d go the longer way past the shops rather than the benches by the River Walk.
Yeah I’ve heard a couple of people mention doors being tried near the Witham Leisure Centre car park this week, and the benches by the River Walk do feel a bit sketchy after dark. I’ve been sticking to Newland Street under the lights and cutting up by the Red Lion—have you seen any police about or just neighbours talking?
My neighbour had his door handle pulled in that Leisure Centre car park the other night, and I’ve noticed the River Walk benches attract groups hanging about later than usual. Might be worth reporting it on 101 if you haven’t already, and I tend to stick to Newland Street by the busier bits when I’m coming back from the Red Lion.
I park by the Leisure Centre most evenings and haven’t noticed anyone trying doors, but it’s definitely quieter around the River Walk benches after dark. If you’re heading back from the Red Lion, I’d stay on the lit bit of Newland Street and avoid cutting through the car park late on.
