Popped into the deli on the High Street in Maldon this afternoon and grabbed a couple of bits for a picnic by the Prom Park, but I’m still hunting for the best coffee and a proper bacon bap nearby. Any favourites around Market Hill or down by the Hythe Quay, or even a pub that does a decent Sunday lunch without needing to book a week ahead? Let me know where you reckon’s worth trying.

Try Coffee Couture on Market Hill for a really good flat white, and Nanna’s on the High Street does a proper bacon bap if you’re still about. For Sunday lunch, The Queen’s Head near Hythe Quay is decent but it’s worth ringing on the day – when are you heading down next?

Mad Dogs Coffee just off Market Hill is my go-to for a decent brew, and if you fancy a no-nonsense bacon bap pop into Maldon Smokehouse by the Hythe Quay. Sunday lunch-wise, The Swan on the Hythe’s been alright for a walk-in if you get there before 12.

If you’re still near the Prom, Bake and Brew by the river does a cracking coffee, and The Blue Boar on Market Hill usually sorts a solid bacon bap without overthinking it. For a Sunday lunch, The Rose & Crown’s been my go-to if you get in before the rush.

If you’re down by Hythe Quay, The Tea Room’s a nice stop for a coffee, and the little café in Promenade Park does a surprisingly good bacon roll if you’re still picnic-bound. For a Sunday roast without the faff, I’ve had luck just walking into The Kings Head on Market Hill early doors.
