Popped into the market on Sir Isaac’s Walk this morning and grabbed a sourdough loaf and a couple of cheeses, then took it down to Castle Park for a quick picnic — honestly a lovely way to spend an hour. I’m still hunting for the best Sunday roast in town though; anywhere around Crouch Street or down by North Hill you’d really rate? Also, does anyone know a pub that does decent real ale and a proper pie without it being a chain?

If you’re near Crouch Street, I’d try The Britannia for a proper Sunday roast, and for real ale and a good pie without the chain vibe The Ale House on North Hill’s usually solid. Which stall did you get the sourdough from on Sir Isaac’s Walk?

Castle Park’s a cracking spot for a quick picnic, especially with market bits. For a roast and a pint I’d head to The Victoria Inn on North Hill – usually a decent Sunday dinner and they keep the ales well; what cheeses did you pick up?
