Popped into The Victoria Tavern on High Road earlier and had a really decent roast, then grabbed a coffee from a little spot near Loughton Station on my way back through. I’m after somewhere in town that does proper fresh pastries (not just the usual supermarket stuff) — any recommendations around Traps Hill or near Epping Forest side? Also, does anyone know if any of the pubs by The Green have started doing good midweek food deals?

For pastries, Loughton Deli on the High Road usually has decent fresh stuff in the mornings, and I’ve heard good things about the little café kiosk by the Forest entrance at the top of Traps Hill. As for midweek deals by The Green, I think The Kings Head has started doing a set menu on Tuesdays but worth ringing first.

If you head up towards the forest, Try Before You Pie on Traps Hill does proper fresh bakes and usually has something decent left even late morning. For midweek deals by The Green, I’m sure The Gardener’s Arms was doing a cheap burger night recently but it changes, so worth checking their board.

If you’re after proper fresh pastries, try Bread & Oregano by Loughton Station or the Bakehouse up towards Traps Hill, both miles better than supermarket stuff. Not sure about midweek deals by The Green though, have you tried The Foresters lately?

For proper pastries on the Epping Forest side, give Gail’s on the High Road a go early doors as it’s usually fresher than most. Not sure on The Green pub deals, but I think The Bull does a midweek pie and pint night if it’s still running.
